1975-1976
In 1975, Copello returned to live in Italy. At Luciano Inga-Pin’s Diagramma Gallery in Milan, during an exhibition of his prints and presenting a performance involving a feather headdress during the opening, he met photographer Giovanna Dal Magro, who documented the event, marking the beginning of a collaborative artistic relationship that would last more than a decade. That same year, they staged the photo-performance "The Mime and the Flag" in Dal Magro’s studio, marking Copello’s foray into his “psycho-patriotic” performances. In 1976, Copello undertook a journey through what he called “the enchanted islands,” studying the nature of Ecuador, an experience that would influence his work depicting natural, metaphysical, and cosmic landscapes.
