From the Frank Copello Printshop, Copello devoted himself to creating large series of prints and collages both to continue his graphic experimentation and to promote the work produced in his studio. Through these techniques, Copello used photographic records of his own previous works and performances to revisit and reinterpret them; a clear example of this is the collage “Water Figures”, where, based on a photographic record of a performance, the artist continues the movement of water by capturing it on paper, generating new layers of interpretation of both his real and dramatized biographies. Likewise, these self-referential elements were often mixed with images; for example, in the engraving Picabia, we see in the distance a fragment of a photograph—the eyes of the artist Francis Picabia—following his intention to reference figures from the art world.
