Marked from birth—on May 21—by a national symbol, Copello devoted himself with particular fervor to the theme of Chile’s ancient and recent history. Between 1975 and 1979 he created his psychopatriotic performances, which were pantomimic reflections on the consequences of the coup d’état juxtaposed with his own biography and family history, exploring the experimental possibilities of the body itself as a medium.
