Another prominent photographer with whom Copello collaborated on various projects was Giuliana Traverso (1930–2021), beginning in the early 1980s. At that time, Copello’s performances took a turn toward a more theatrical drama, leaving behind explicitly political topics and exploring the theme of identity through reinterpretations of art history with a more deliberate use of makeup, costumes, set design, and locations. In “A Mime Story”, Copello’s second alter ego character, named Aliviol—a male mime in a perpetual state of travel—makes his formal debut.
