This performance participatory explores the poetry in Sign Language Cuban (LSC), performed in conjunction with the National Association of the Deaf of Cuba (ANSOC) and created for the 12th Havana Biennial, 2015. Are Signs developed out of a poetry workshop in LSC: two weeks of classes, exercises and experiments in the ANSOC. Each participant provided and collectively decided what to do, the artist established the starting point to then become a performer more. Worked with original poems by the participants, and an anthology of Nicolás Guillén. The presentations were held on may 22, 2015, at the opening of the Biennial at the Wifredo Lam Center, and on 25 may 2015, National Day of the Sign Language Interpreter, at the Higher Institute of Art. The experience was documented by Alejandro Hidalgo, assisted by Jesus Lugo, both Deaf. The video was projected without sound, in the Wifredo Lam Center.
For exposure to Specific Poems, in Die Ecke (2017), three of these poems were selected: atomic Bomb, played by Michel Carballo; Ballad of the two grandparents, by Leonel Prieto and Lisandro Massipe; and Walking, Maité Chaveco. For this exhibition, the artist builds a bridge with the world listener by presenting these poems with sound, highlighting, percussion, Carlos Sanchez, and Armando Viel (hearing and deaf) and the voice of Ada Teresa González, which accompany the action of each performer Deaf under the trees of ANSOC, in Havana.
