Direct Action / Direct Action (Broad St, East Broadway, Market St., New York.)
Title: Direct Action / Direct Action (Broad St, East Broadway, Market St., New York.)
Year: 2023
Measures: 58 x 76 cm
Technique: Rubbed floor-to-back in different places, graphite on paper
From the experimentation with the use of the street as typography and printing, the artist goes beyond the monoimpresión and has expanded to perform rubbed consecutive different floors superimposed on a single sheet of paper. Direct Action (Direct Action) is an artist proof torn from The Weather Underground (2012), overlaid with rubbed pieces of the floor of East Broadway, where he lives, the artist and from where he left to join his first gear with the Coalition to Protect Chinatown and the Lower East Side.
The lyrics come from the top of the camera sewer system closest to you, with all your lettering legible, located on Market Street, just around the corner from his house.
This work was created specifically for the exhibition Direct Action at Storefront for Art & Architecture magazine to be printed 1:1 scale in its traditional newsletter newspaper format used by the organization since its inception.
